Full-Time Middle School TEacher

Seeking Full-Time Teachers for the 2024-2025 School Year in Disciplines including Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies/History and Religion.

The Academy seeks mission-driven candidates to teach, coach and advise students, participate in summer programming, and demonstrate commitment to all aspects of the Academy’s mission.  Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in math, science, or another core subject area, and have experience with middle school or high school aged youth.  Flexibility in teaching additional subject areas is also a plus. Teaching at the Academy is an 11-month school year role that includes participating in the June two week residential summer camp and teaching during the month-long July session.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree.  Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience working with middle or high school age students. 

  • Experience in a team oriented collaborative work environment.

  • Be self-motivated, possess superior organizational skills, and a sense of humor.

This full-time faculty position is an eleven-month, salaried, exempt employment position with occasional evening responsibilities. The successful candidate will begin her/his duties in late July 2024.

School Counselor/Social Worker

Seeking a Full-Time School Counselor/Social Worker to start July 1, 2024

The Academy seeks a full-time School Counselor/Social Worker who will be responsible for managing a caseload of students and families for all aspects of social work, counseling and well-being support services. In addition, this critical role plans and delivers student and parent programming. 

The School Counselor/Social Worker is a full-time 12-month employee, and also must be available to provide as-needed service during the two-week June summer camp near Frederick, MD. 

The School Counselor/Social Worker monitors the emotional well-being as well as academic and social behavioral performance of all students. The School Counselor/Social Worker is a member of grade level teams, the Child Study Team, and the senior leadership team to keep abreast of on-going or emerging student concerns. The School Counselor/Social Worker recommends specific counseling, testing, tutoring, or other follow-through for concerns expressed by teachers, parents, or students themselves. Where necessary, she/he facilitates outside psychological, psycho-educational, or behavioral assessment, testing, or consultation. TheSchool Counselor/Social Worker coordinates the PTA and is the school’s representative and liaison in PTA and other parent group affairs. The School Counselor/Social Worker also supports the admissions process for students and families entering the Academy. 

This is a multi-functional role that requires a dynamic individual. The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree, and preferably a master’s degree in counseling or social work 

  • Have previous professional school-based experience as a counselor or classroom teacher, or adolescent social work experience 

  • Understand student and family needs, particularly as it relates to those living in underserved communities and struggling with poverty

  • Have an understanding of available community-based programs that families can connect to or that can provide a program partnership

  • Offer some classroom guidance sessions and intervention

  • Have exceptional communication skills, both written and oral 

  • Be able to use Microsoft Office suite applications and Google Docs with proficiency and have experience using database driven web applications. The Academy will provide training for the transfer of already acquired skills to Academy-specific database applications. 

  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with various constituencies 

  • Possess strategic thinking skills that are creative and solutions oriented 

  • Be self-motivated, possess superior organizational skills, and a sense of humor

  • Have a deep appreciation for the unique mission of St. Ignatius Loyola Academy 

This position starts no later than July 1, 2024. Compensation is competitive with Baltimore independent schools. 7th and 8th Grade Spanish Teacher

Seeking a Full-Time dynamic and committed Spanish Language Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Academy seeks a mission-driven candidate to teach 7th and 8th grade Spanish (four sections), coach and advise students, participate in summer programming, and demonstrate a commitment to all aspects of the Academy’s mission.  The candidate will also assist with written and spoken English-Spanish translation for other program areas as needed.  Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with significant course work in Spanish Language and/or be a native Spanish speaker and have experience with middle school or high school aged youth.  Flexibility in teaching additional subject areas is also a plus. Volunteer Teacher Service Program

Applications are being accepted for volunteer intern teachers for the 2024-2025 School Year.

Are you interested in teaching?  Do you want to serve others? How about in an environment with small class sizes and a dedicated, supportive faculty?  Are you looking for an opportunity to develop teaching skills while providing a valuable service to children and a school?

The St. Ignatius Loyola Academy volunteer teacher program is a two-year long service program, where you will work with motivated inner-city boys who attend the Academy on full scholarships and who are aspiring to attend competitive, college-preparatory high schools and colleges. Volunteer teachers work full-time in a fast-paced school environment throughout our 11 month school year. Our volunteer teacher service program is affiliated with Americorps.

Applications for the Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) 2024 are now being accepted!

The St. Ignatius Loyola Academy Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) is an internship opportunity for college-aged graduates to reconnect with the Academy and to explore their interests in the field of education. In addition to honing their skills in both the camp setting and the classroom, this program will offer graduates the opportunity to develop leadership skills through participation in professional development workshops and seminars. The Graduate Support Program team will mentor the Graduate Camp Advisors and Graduate Teaching Assistants throughout the program.
